When it comes to choosing the perfect chair for your office, there are many things to consider. But if you’re looking for a chair that is comfortable, stylish, and will last you for years to come, then you may want to consider the Steelcase Think and The Think V2. Both of them are designed with ergonomics in mind, they offer a variety of features that can make your workday more comfortable and productive. So, what is the difference between them?
The Steelcase Think original version has been on the market for over 20 years. It’s been updated over the years to include new features, but still retains the same basic design with the name Think V2 which features a number of significant improvements over the original.
Think is one of the global best sellers. In 2015, the Think V2 was announced with almost all the parts changed to create a more sophisticated design. But it doesn’t mean Think is out to update, it’s still a good one. If you’re looking for a chair that is more comfortable and durable, Think is the better choice.

For design – There is not much difference
The Think has a classic design that will never go out of style. Its simple, clean lines and unassuming look make it a good choice for any office or home. Think V2 has a more modern look with its chrome-accented base and sleeker backrest design.
The back supports are plastic on the Think V2 and metal on the Think – A different lumbar which doesn’t operate much differently. To put it simply, look at the colors of the bars and you can determine which one. If it’s metal/silver, it’s a Think. If it’s black and plasticky then it’s a Think V2 that is a bit more contoured to your back, so it might provide a tiny bit more support for your back, but it’s not a night and day difference.
If you’re looking for a padded backrest, Think is quite a bit more comfortable than the Think V2
For comfortable – Steelcase Think V2 win
The lumbar support on the original Think is not adjustable and is fixed in place. So, if you need more or less lumbar support, the Think V2 is the better choice. The lumbar support on the Think V2 uses two embedded glass resin springs to dynamically support the natural movement of the spines adjustable and can be moved up or down to better suit your needs. It’s useful to have this feature because it means you can adjust the lumbar support to match your spine’s natural curve, providing better support and comfort.
Think V2 has an updated mechanism that allows the chair to recline further back, while the Think was designed for working at a desk or computer, so it didn’t need to recline very far. They used a weight-activated mechanism that was quite difficult to recline, especially for petite users. However, Think V2 has an updated mechanism that allows the chair to recline further back, making it more comfortable for relaxation or taking a nap. Advanced weight-activated mechanism with double the synchro ratio (3.5:1) to improve recline posture.
Additionally, the tension setting was modified to make it easier for more petite users to recline. The range of adjustments is good, though it hasn’t a mechanism for locking the backrest in a reclined position. The controls are more integrated and feature a stainless steel accent. If you need a chair that can do double-duty as both a work and relaxation chair, then the Think V2 is the better choice.
The mesh Think V2 helps you feels a breeze and breathable. Leaning on it also feels the best, and it kind of cradles my back. The rocking sensation is also amazing. V2’s armrests were redesigned from the Think and are now even more robust and stable. However, it’s way apart, but it’s still better than Gesture.
Although Think V2 has many improved feathers. A comparison of the Think V2 vs Leap shows that Leap V2 is still better than Think. No doubt Leap is just one step up in the portfolio over Think, it has far more adjustability and engineering built into it for a far more comfortable seat. Of course, Think V2 wins the overall quality, while V2 Leap is a more fully-featured chair than the Think which has more back support as well as the lower back firmness adjustment and more options for tilt lock, and lean back tension adjustment.
An upgrade quality foam seat pad on the Think V2 makes more quality than the Think
The biggest change is the seat – It’s a much more standard foam seat pad vs the thinner seat pad on the Think that was supported by similar metal support rods like the back. The back and seat of the Think V2 are connected with two small plastic plates that help keep the back in place while still allowing it to move independently. The Think seat relied on these rods to help support the user and provide a bit of a hybrid cushion/ mesh sort of feeling.
